The Indian government recently notified the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Rules 2025, which now officially brings the DPDP Act 2023 into power. These rules provide a detailed framework for data protection, including requirements for consent, data breach reporting, and data principal rights. It also establishes the digital Data Protection Board of India. These rules represent a high-water mark in India's AI and digital economy. For the first time, we will have a regulatory framework that recognises the transformative power of artificial intelligence while centring user rights and trust.
